In terms of health infrastructure in the country, our health network has one of the strongest and most advanced systems in the region. More than 30,000 centers are active in the country to give services to a population of 83 million people in urban and rural areas. We used this potential to control land, sea, and air borders, and the necessary controls were carried out through checking fever. Some hospitals were also specialized to receive these patients from the very first days, and the suspicious cases were transferred to these hospitals.

National Mobilization Plan Against Corona-virus

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has officially instructed the Health Ministry to form a national headquarters tasked with containing the outbreak of the new Corona-virus.

Citing a report by the president’s information center on Sunday, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) said Rouhani had assigned the Iranian health minister to hold regular sessions at the headquarters and employ the entire potential of the ministry’s affiliates to help preclude further spread of the deadly virus in a bid to eradicate the disease.

“Since all state bodies must strive toward prevention of the Corona-virus disease, hereby, you are tasked with forming a headquarters called the ‘National Headquarters for the Management of Corona-virus Disease’,” Rouhani said in his edict to Health Minister Saeed Namaki.

Iran’s president stipulated that the new organ must work under command of the health minister and should also include the ministers of interior; road and urban development; education; science, research and technology; cultural heritage, tourism and handicrafts; culture and Islamic guidance; as well as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of Iran’s armed forces, the office of the attorney general, head of Plan and Budget Organization, president of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, head of Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization, the administration’s spokesman, and Iran’s police chief.

The Iranian president also underlined that in addition to holding regular sessions to make way for field study and precise data assessment and to facilitate decision-making processes concerning the outbreak, the ministry was obliged to utilize all the capacity of related divisions to help fight and uproot the deadly virus as soon as possible and report the results on a regular basis.

Rouhani had earlier ordered the formation of a special task force aimed at taking necessary preventative measures and confronting further spread of the Corona-virus, known as COVID-19, which emerged in China late last year and has claimed several lives in the Islamic Republic so far.

How the Electronic Health Record System works?

All the hospitals and the excellent work have been reinforced being done in the country is the issue of National Mobilization against Corona. It is being done with the help of popular forces such as the Basij and the armed forces and NGOs as well as 75,000 troops at the Health Screening Patient Bases. Before people refer to the hospitals, we go to them and this is a special strategy against the virus. We identify people in three ways:

  1. First, the SALAMAT.GOV.IR site is launched and people can record their information by answering a few simple questions.
  2. Upon logging into this system, an SMS will be sent immediately to our healthcare provider to inform him/her of the status of the person registered with the system. If the registrant has symptoms, our colleagues will call and track his/her status via 4030 hotline. Our partners also receive information directly from people.
  3. The third approach, which is less recommended, is to refer people to health centers. After screening, 1200 of our centers that work 16 hours a day provide services to suspicious cases.

After the health care providers contact, if someone has symptoms, they will be introduced to the health centers. If the physician says the person has no particular problems after the examination, he or she will be sent home to rest. If they have severe symptoms, they will go to hospital.

Keep in mind that some people do not have severe symptoms and they can be treated at home. Our health care providers will look at their physical condition of them for up to 5 days after. Some of these people require outpatient treatment that is provided by the centers and protocols are developed for each of these measures.

If a person is admitted to the hospital, our health care provider will be notified through SMS. Our health care provider will go to the person’s family as soon as they realize a family member is in the hospital. S/he will check their symptoms. They also ask the families where the patient has been to identify other suspicious cases.
